Ulla Johnson's Expanding Vision: Resort 2027 Collection & Global Growth

Ulla Johnson is embarking on a significant expansion, marked by the upcoming opening of her inaugural standalone London boutique on Sloane Street in August. This new international presence, her first outside the United States, signals a crucial step for the brand's global growth. Accompanying this retail milestone, Johnson has also introduced a collection of three new fragrances this year, a project two years in the making. She emphasized the personal connection behind these scents, stating, "All of them are evocative of a certain memory. It had to feel very personal. There's so much product out there that feels mass-oriented." This commitment to individuality and personal storytelling is a hallmark of her brand's philosophy.

Johnson's innate artistic sensibility shines through in her latest resort collection, demonstrating her dedication to craftsmanship and creative partnerships. The perfume bottles' caps, meticulously sculpted by LA artist Jonathan Yamakami, exemplify this artistic collaboration. For the Resort 2027 collection, she partnered with artist Cassi Namoda, whose vibrant floral artwork was transformed into striking large-scale prints on silk twill dresses and rich, Italian-made jacquards for a sleeveless top and full skirt ensemble. Other highlights include delicate floral patterns on chiffon dresses and separates, along with three-dimensional rosette embroideries adorning a sophisticated going-out top, ingeniously paired with jeans.

Beyond captivating prints, Johnson's knitwear remains a strong attraction, evolving from her signature hand-crocheted dresses to more experimental pieces like a sparkling three-piece set featuring a cardigan, mini-skirt, and cropped tank. More notably, the collection showcases inventive black-and-white dresses with various fringe accents. Even as the brand broadens its appeal to include foundational garments, Johnson's designs are consistently distinguished by unexpected details. For instance, five-pocket jeans are reimagined with a barrel-like cut and brass hardware on the waistband, negating the need for a belt. Another denim ensemble, comprising a bomber jacket and matching jeans, boasts a unique feathery jacquard motif designed to become more distinct with each wash, all while being machine-washable.

Ulla Johnson’s journey reflects a thoughtful evolution, blending commercial ambition with profound creative expression. Her commitment to unique designs, artistic collaborations, and quality craftsmanship ensures that her brand continues to inspire and redefine contemporary fashion. Through strategic expansion and unwavering artistic integrity, Johnson sets a compelling example of how a brand can grow while staying true to its core values and offering a distinctly personal touch to the global fashion landscape.
